GENERAL NAME: Isabelle Francesca Sargent NICKNAMES: Is, Issy AGE/DOB: 16, March 29 BLOOD STATUS: Half Blood GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female ; She/Her SEXUALITY: Bisexual HOMETOWN: The United States - most recently, Fargo, North Dakota, but she lived all over the place before that. California, Washington, Utah, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, South Carolina, Tennessee, etc.
CONCEPT: Anxiety-riddled teenager attempts to regain control of her life.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE: Incredibly thin. She's average in pretty much every other way except that she is very very thin. Most of her clothing is baggy for her, even her uniform - not intentionally, but they just don't run quite that small. Although her uniform probably fits her best. she wears layers over that, too. Her smallness, while still a struggle for her, is not something she likes to flaunt so she tends to wear things that won't attract much attention to her actual figure.
HEIGHT: 5'6"
PB: Annalise Basso
PERSONALITYLIKES: Clean lines, organization, when things fall perfectly into place, coffee, jewelry, privacy, when things are in chronological/alphabetical/chromatic order, being complimented, watching Quidditch, watching the cheer squad, dancing, people who are genuinely happy. DISLIKES: Large gatherings, small spaces, mess, sharing a room, sharing anything, expectations she can't meet, existentialism, philosophy or philosophical discussions, being wrong, failing. PERSONALITY: Isabelle's outward appearance has changed a bit, though passively many are likely to still think of her as neurotic. She still has plenty of idiosyncrasies like organizing her pens and pencils just so, re-arranging things, and weird eating habits that put other people off. She's very intense and wants everything to be just so, but is less oversensitive than she used to be. You'd probably still vote her to be "Most Likely to Cry" but her first year at Gooseberry did actually toughen her up a bit.
Underneath all the outward drama, Isabelle is highly self-conscious. Ruled by her need to be perfect in every way - the right hair, make-up, the right size, weight, all her choices are geared towards coming off how she thinks she should. This includes, of course, attitude. She realized early on that her general over-sensitivity, despite being her living... honestly, the way she is supposed to (thanks, Therapy) was not doing her any favors. It put people off and so Isabelle has learned to keep more things to herself.
What she is more open about, however, is her opinion. Isabelle never wanted to ruffle any feathers or cause anyone to dislike her, but when Things Went Down with 2, Brother, aka the Forest Entities, Forest Moose, whatever you want to call them (and let's not forget Henry, Peter, and the Lost Boys) Isabelle had kept quiet and kept secrets when she thought they shouldn't. This year, she's not planning on doing any of that. She is more likely to voice her opinions and if that gets her shut out of certain groups, well, so be it.
Still, Isabelle wants to have fun. She wants to be fun. If things had gone differently in her life, Isabelle may have landed in Azurcrest. If she could just let her guard down and let herself shine a little more, she'd be someone people actually wanted to be friends with. After her small, but awesome part in Into the Woods, Isabelle is even more focused on acting than she was before. Her parents may want her to go into a more normal career, but Isabelle dreams of something bigger, more glamorous. She wants to be a big Hollywood actress, or maybe join some high brow theatre company, maybe with a focus on musicals. She just loves the arts - singing, dancing, painting, whatever. It's the easiest way to express herself. It's the one place she can be a bit more raw, a little more open. Still, her more neurotic and practical self has a back-up plan.
With Ivy & Laurel graduating, Isabelle is feeling a little lost. She has some other friends, but she's missing that best friendship now. Going into year 2, Isabelle is worried she won't have someone she can go to when things get hard, when she's having trouble coping. Although it's not the same as coming into Gooseberry as a new sophomore with no freshman connections, she's still worried about where she fits in now.
SKILLS LANGUAGES SPOKEN: Of course Isabelle is fluent in English, but she is also fluent in American Sign Language and Spanish. She learned Spanish while undergoing treatment as part of the coursework there, and she learned Sign Language because of Milo. She's mostly fluent, though could still use some work in forming everything properly.
PATRONUS: Isabelle is not currently able to cast a Patronus. If she could: Isabelle's Patronus would be a Siberian Forest Cat. They are great at reading moods, leave you alone when you want to be left alone but can also play 'therapist' when needed. They are social by nature, very loyal and faithful to those who are kind to them. Non aggressive but playful, they love to make friends. However, they are suspicious and known to protect their own when necessary.
SKILLS: Isabelle is a skilled singer and artist. She's a soprano when it comes to signing, though she has been working hard to flex her tone a bit and hit the lower notes more strongly. As an artist, Isabelle's favorite medium is painting. Although sketching, drawing, charcoal are all fun and even sculpting has its moment, painting is more abstract. It's where she feels free.
Isabelle is also a decent dancer. She's gotten better since being in the musical, loosening up a bit. She took ballet as a kid and that's where she shines most but she truly does enjoy dancing and is taking more of interest in it her Junior year, hoping to improve upon her skills.
School wise, Isabelle is talented in Astronomy, despite her general inclination to hate it because it's the family business and all. She getting rather talented in Divination even if she is unsure of it sometimes.
HISTORYFAMILY MEMBERS: Andrew Sargent - Father - Makes magical instruments for a major wizarding Astronomy company Christine Sargent - Mother - Housewife Daniel Sargent - Brother, older - Intern at the same company his father works at Giselle Sargent - Sister, older - Healer
HISTORY: Isabelle came as a late, surprise child to her parents. They'd meant to stop at two but whoops, things happen? She was never treated as such, but the age difference between her siblings and her was quite large and left Issy feeling a little isolated at best and co-parented by four people at worst. More then that, her siblings were very good children - they were calm, respectful, and both seemed headed on "the right path" so to speak. Isabelle wasn't like that at all. She came out of the womb with a need to be center of attention, center stage, wanting to dance and make art and express herself.
But that was just Not. Tolerated. Not in the Sargent household, where rules and organization reigned supreme. Where mess was disliked very much, by an intensely perfectionist mother. Maybe it was the high brow lifestyle both her parents had grown up in - rich, powerful families were like that sometimes. It seeped out into them and then into their own children. With no one her age to run around with, play-dates with school friends well organized and catered, that wild spirit was eventually tamed down and Isabelle learned to live by 'the rules.'
Moving didn't help, either. Being a salesmen gave them commission which worked well, her father had the tongue of a seasoned politician and they enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle with how many of his companies instruments he sold. Not to mention, all the bonuses and the like. However, perpetually being 'The New Kid' was tiring. Her siblings seemed to just get how to do it, but Isabelle wasn't that good at it. She felt the pressure to dress the right way for each new place, act the right way, use the right language. It was exhausting, and felt like she was never really in control of the situation, in control of her life.
It almost seemed like things would get better, briefly. Her father got an executive type job in the company, which settled them down in Fargo, North Dakota. She got to stay in one school, West Preparatory School for Magical Education, a small but prestigious school that serviced the midwest, until she could attend Ilvermorny like her siblings. But it just didn't click there, for Isabelle. She tried, but she did not fit in well with the typical mid-western kids. She had more friends in the 'outcast' groups, but even they seemed to find her a bit odd.
And then it started. She hit puberty early, causing a fluctuation in weight and skin, emotions running wild, teasing by her classmates - and the jabs by her parents. "You know, if you just didn't eat that last slice of pizza..." "You could stand to lose..." They thought they were being helpful, knowing full well she was unhappy with her weight, but the comments just made it worse. They weren't unloving or cruel, but perhaps not as sensitive to their youngest daughters needs as they should have been. Though the OCD had been developing for some time, and the Anorexia followed shortly after.
It became far more out of control when she entered Ilvermorny. Without her parents watching her eating habits, she could eat less and less. She became obsessed about organizing her things in her room, color coding her notes, being the Best Student Ever. Her parents didn't even notice anything was wrong, they were so proud of how she took control of her life, how she finally seemed to be fitting in. Then, she had a nervous breakdown.
Or more accurately, a complete mental breakdown in her third year at Ilvermorny, during dinner. Finally, her mental health issues came to light and her parents immediately sought treatment. She was home schooled for a year (well, not really home-schooled, just attended a sort of 'private school' for other Witches and Wizards with 'Health Problems') and rehabilitated. Her biggest condition was a change of schools, too ashamed by her breakdown to face Ilvermorny - not to mention, it was just too big now. She felt lost there.
Fortunately for her, Isabelle was quite smart - her perfectionism and penchant for studying got her in to Gooseberry as a transfer student. Along with her volunteer projects (to help spread awareness about mental illness in the Wizarding community) and stellar academic record even with her breakdown, she was a shoo-in for the new school. She's been trying to come off normal, trying every club in the school at least once to see if she likes it, and doing her best to fit in and not lose herself again.
Her first year at Gooseberry went... alright? There were some major highlights - becoming friends with Laurel and Ivy, getting herself to go out to the Grotto for the parties, making some friends and even going to prom with Jeffy. She has made some big strides towards continuing her recovery, but has had some serious setbacks as well. The Seances really freaked her out, and Isabelle considered several times leaving school altogether. After the second seance, she wanted to go home immediately. If there wasn't just a few weeks of school left, she probably would have. She thought she could stick it out.
After the situation with 2 and Brother, being kidnapped, and (fortunately) getting accidentally saved by some older students, Isabelle regrets not quitting when she had the chance. Though the situation has not set her back to her old ways fully, she's still struggling with coping to get through and understand what happened. Unfortunately, due to her many transfers already, Isabelle is unable to continue school anywhere else and must end up back at Gooseberry. She is not looking forward to it.
SCHOOL YEAR: Junior HOUSE: Ilvermorny (Horned Serpant), now Ebonhide SORTING: The Horned Serpent is a lot like Ebonhide in a way - it's about the brains. Though her inner wild chld yearned for Azurecrest and Azurecrest knew it, she was far too caught up in her need for control, order, and perfection for such a wild house. In all honestly, it was Ebonhide's strong, concise argument and less emotional nature that drove her to choose it. WAND: Pine, 11", sturdy, dragon heart-string. FAMILIAR: A toad named, you got it, Mr Toad.
CLASSES: Charms, Hermeticism, Potions, Transfiguration, Aestethic Magic, Astronomy, DADA, Herbology. ADVANCED STUDY: Pre-Healer Studies. Isabelle has worked very hard all year and has passed all of her classes, most with great grades. She wants to focus on mental health and health-care reform, and generally getting into the healing field. SENIOR PROJECT: Although the expectation is for her to do something Astronomy-related, Isabelle has applied to Pre-Healer studies and wants to focus on expanding the mental-health care system for wizards. She plans on doing an analysis and research paper outlining the systems currently in place and how they might be made better. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: As expected, Isabelle is doing very well in school. She jumped in to all her classes and has done a great job in doing well in all of them, though less enthusiastically for some. Aesthetic magic is her favorite class. Astronomy is her least favorite.
EXTRACURRICULARS: Choir, Drama, Equestrian
